Dr. Subir Basak President , Jubilant Biosys & Chemsys Limited
Subir Basak, President of Jubilant Biosys Ltd. and Jubilant Chemsys Ltd India, a subsidiary of the Jubilant group of companies, has been involved in Business Development, R&D and market innovations as well as Business Strategy for over 20 years. Reporting to the Board, Subir is responsible for leading collaborative Drug Discovery Services at Jubilant.
Subir has over 20 years of diverse and rich leadership experience in R&D, Business Development, Market Innovation , Business Strategy , Licensing , Operations. Before joining Jubilant, he was with INTAS Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Ahmadabad, India, where he served as Chief Commercial Officer - Intas Biopharmaceuticals and C.E.O - Celestial Biologicals. During his tenure, Intas demonstrated strong growth in revenue, income and active client base. Previously, he held the position of Global Oncology Head at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, where he orchestrated leadership and direction to Oncology & Specialty based businesses within the company valued at $50M top-line revenues at 40% YOY growth.
Subir has also held senior management positions at Biocon and Amgen, where he was instrumental in leading the Business strategy, development and commercialization of key Strategic Alliances.
He has completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from IIT Roorkee, MS & PhD in Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering from Purdue University, USA. In addition to this he also holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management, USA & Trained in Advanced Management Development from Wharton School of Business, USA. He has been profiled in a Harvard Business Review case study related to Innovation, Biotechnology, and Emerging markets.
Dr. Ratan Bhat Sr. Vice President - Discovery Portfolio & Translational Science
Ratan has completed his MS, Pharmacy from the University of Toledo, a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Colorado, Boulder and has completed his Post doc in Neuroscience from the John Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Ratan brings around 25 years of unparallel experience in Neuroscience/Pharmacology and around 18 years of drug discovery expertise both in Biotech and global pharmaceutical companies. He has contributed immensely towards the Neurology disease area strategy and research pipeline by introducing a portfolio of novel targets and establishing academic collaborations. He also combines 10 years of his extensive experience towards developing and managing Södertälje CNS Discovery site as a permanent member of the Södertälje Research and Line Leadership Teams.
Prior to joining us he was with AstraZeneca as a Sr. Director - Projects, Externalization & Strategy.
Kankana Barua Senior Vice President & Global Head of Human Resources
Kankana Barua is a qualified Company Secretary from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, a Law graduate with an additional Diploma in Human Resource and a certified Life Coach accredited by ICF. She has over 21 years experience and has worked with companies like Bata India, Brooke Bond India, IFB Industries, Assam Tea Corporation and Sanmar Specialty Chemicals. Her first 2 years of experience has been purely in a Company Secretary and legal role. She has been an HR generalist for the last 19 years and has diverse experience in the entire gamut of HR functions . She joined Jubilant in 2005 and since then she is spearheading the entire HR function of JDDDS globally and has significantly contributed to the integration of the Discovery and Development services model across India, US and Europe.
Paresh Gupta CFO - Jubilant Drug Discovery & Development.
Paresh is a Bachelor of Commerce from Calcutta University. Paresh is also a Qualified CA and CS.
Being a qualified Chartered Accountant his core expertise lies in Finance function. Paresh however believe in partnering with business leaders and create value for the organization and work with cross functional teams.
Paresh has worked with various MNCs in his post qualification career span of 15 years having world wide operations. Paresh was associated with Companies of international repute like Kraft Foods, Lufthansa & Thermo Fisher. Having worked with these MNCs Paresh has perspective of internal operations and has extensively travelled abroad .
Dr. Ramesh Subramanian Vice President - Business Development.
Ramesh has a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from Banaras Hindu University and PhD in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University. He also has to his credit an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Ramesh is a result driven business leader with track record of elevating organizational performance. He has significant international experience in building businesses, negotiating deals, managing alliances in US, Europe and Asia in Pharmaceuticals and Specialty Chemical sectors. He has directed all aspects of business like developing sustainable operation & business strategy, marketing plan, manage acquisitions, negotiating licensing deals, leverage executive level relationships across regulated markets and other potential geographical areas.
Prior to joining us he was with XL Advisors as Founder of the firm providing strategic advisory services, financial valuations, and develops licensing deal structures for clients in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Chemical sectors.
Dr. Sriram Rajagopal Senior Vice President - Biology.
Dr. Sriram Rajagopal is a PhD in Biochemistry from Anna University, Chennai and Post Doc from University of Washington, Seattle. Over the course of his 20 years of professional career he has published 27 research publications , has been awarded 39 patents to his credit and has filed 73 Patent Applications.
Dr. Sriram Rajagopal was an Instructor (Junior faculty) at MD Anderson Cancer Centre at Houston Texas for eight years before he joined Dr Reddy’s Lab in India. During his tenure at DRL, he established nude / SCID breed and Xenograft models and development of cell culture laboratories for anti-cancer compound screening and set-up the Molecular Discovery Department for target based screening in various Therapeutic Areas. He also initiated MAPK target based oncology research by establishing Kinase platforms.
Prior to joining us, he was associated with Orchid Research Laboratories ,Chennai. He is an active member of American Association and Indian Association for Cancer Research.
Dr. Vellarkad N. Viswanadhan Vice President - Computational Chemistry.
Dr Viswanadhan obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from the University Madras in 1983. He performed his post-doctoral research at Texas A&M University, and worked as a Fogarty International visiting scientist at National Cancer Institute, Bethesda (USA) prior to working in the pharmaceutical industry.
His core expertise in Computational Chemistry and Chemoinformatics encompasses both method development and application in drug discovery. He has extensively worked on identification and analysis of novel molecules as therapeutics, as well as SAR, QSAR and docking studies involving a variety of therapeutic targets. He has versatile background in the field, impacting all significant aspects of pre-clinical drug discovery, (hit to lead development, lead optimization, ADME and Clinical Candidate selection).
His research at NIH (USA), Amgen and Gensia-Psicor, spanning nearly two decades, was focused on protein structure and ligand-based drug design and molecular modeling, supporting pre-clinical drug discovery, in the areas of cancer, diabetes, CNS disorders, pain and inflammation, anemia, and technology development. He has versatile experience with drug discovery targets such as kinases, proteases, hydroxylases and ion channel targets. Several of the compounds he worked on are in advanced stages of pre-clinical/clinical development. He is the author or co-author of 66 publications in the field of molecular modeling and computational chemistry, and several patents and patent applications in drug discovery. He co-authored of a widely quoted book on combinatorial library design.
Dr. Rajagopal Bakthavatchalam Vice President - Medicinal Chemistry.
Dr. Rajagopal Bakthavatchalam has completed his Ph. D. in Organic chemistry, from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. Subsequently, he pursued his Instructor / Post Doctoral studies from Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA. Dr. Bakthavatchalam spent initial 8 years of his industrial career at DuPont and DuPont-Merck Pharmaceuticals, USA where he was a key team member that delivered phase 2 clinical candidate for CNS indication. He then moved to Neurogen Corporation, Branford, USA for another eight years where he was a Senior Research Fellow, working on TRPV1, MCH1, CRF1, P2X7, CGRP and growth factor programs. During his tenure at Neurogen, Dr. Bakthavatchalam discovered multiple development candidates where in most advanced compound completed phase 2 clinical trial. Prior to joining Jubilant, he was at Hydra Biosciences, Cambridge, USA as Director of Medicinal Chemistry, leading a number of ion channel programs for pain related indications.
Dr. Bakthavatchalam has over 18 years experience as a medicinal chemist, drug discovery scientist and manager in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry delivering high quality clinical candidates under aggressive timelines. He has demonstrated knowledge to build strong intellectual property and created value by rapidly discovering innovative ideas for new therapeutic indications using fragment, structure and evidence based strategies. He has to his credit of 33 issued patents, 24 publications, 20 posters and filed over 50 patent applications.
Amit Kumar Rustagi Associate Vice President & Head – IT.
Amit K Rustagi is an Engineering Graduate from Gulbarga University. For the last 7 years he is heading the Global Information Technology group at Jubilant Drug Discovery and Development subsidiaries by managing infrastructure group, application group and product development group. He brings with him over 17 years of IT industry experience in multiple domains spreading across various platforms in consulting, solutioning and Infrastructure. He has also been instrumental in implementing ISO and SEI-CMM based quality assurance related activities. He started his career with CMC Ltd (a subsidiary of TCS) and was managing ITES group. He worked as IT consultant to Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, MP and e-commerce consultant to Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) and Apparel Export Promotion Council in implementing Election Photo Identity Card project for Delhi, Bihar and MP.
